Now he's a passionate CrossFit coach,"... it's not all about physical fitness but also mental toughness. As a coach I enjoy seeing the reaction on people’s faces when they finish a workout they thought that they wouldn't even get close to finishing it or getting a PR on an Olympic lift when they believe the weight was too heavy."

I have and always will have a passion for sport and physical activity. As I was attending school I played every sport I could get my hands on. This included rugby, cricket, basketball, water polo, tennis and athletics (high jump). Once I left school I decided to focus on one sport and this was rugby. I ended up living my dream and playing professionally for the Manawatu Turbo’s in 2012 but this was short lived as I had a couple of serious injuries back to back. During my time off with my injury I found Crossfit as a way off keeping things fresh within my training. This was nearing the end of 2014 and then I was hooked, I just loved the style of training and pushing my body to the limit. Still fairly new to this sport but loving it.

Currently working as a strength and conditioning coach for the Crusaders and coach at Franks Brothers Crossfit after completing my degree in Sport and Exercise Science.

What I love about Franks Brothers is the friendly community and willingness to learn from all the members. This makes it an enjoyable place to both work and train.

Hey everybody.
I've always been involved in sports growing up. Competitive swimming from an early age, rep rugby through my teens in early twenties and various other sports/activities along the way, Globo gym, Martial Arts, Mtb, running & trail running.
Having first come across CrossFit whilst living in Australia back in early 2012. I quickly become hooked on the intensity and constant variety of the Wods and haven't looked back. The great thing about CrossFit is the scalability of all the movements, which means everyone can get involved. It's functional fitness designed for out there, the real world.
You hear it a lot about the community but one of the great things about Franks Brothers/ Franks Brothers Selwyn is its members, the community. It's amazing seeing the reaction of a member who was able to do something today that they didn't think possible yesterday.  I feel privileged to be apart of that journey and Franks Brothers Selwyn.

Best thing about Crossfit:  “Everything is everything”.  Crossfit is not a collection of singular activities bought together to get you sweaty. By mastering one movement you improve another, working towards ‘whole-functional fitness’; that is why anyone can join any class at any time - everything is scalable and this is the key to progressing no matter what level you may start at!  It is also a whanaungatanga like you can only find in units like 3 Commando brigade; competitive but team orientated, and hard work!

Best thing about Franks Brothers Crossfit:  Franks Brothers have a team of coaches that work tirelessly to develop their athletes. I know it is said a lot, but the community at Franks Brothers really is the lifeblood of the gym. This year's Open Competition series demonstrated the huge support that comes from everyone at every level.

My sport is now Crossfit (my wife may call it my obsession).

READ MORE ABOUT GINAYA

My name is Ginaya and CrossFit is what I love. My fitness journey started in my late twenties when I found myself significantly over-weight and unhealthy. I began to work hard and after losing 45kgs I realised fitness was my passion. I became a qualified Personal Trainer and began working at Les Mills as a Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor teaching BodyPump and GRIT.  Eventually my passion led me to start training with CrossFit methodologies. Once I started there was no looking back. Securing a position at Reebok CrossFit Canterbury was a dream come true. Every day I get to do what I love: train hard, help other people train hard at a level that is right for them and generally be awesome with awesome people.

I have been involved in sports since I was a kid, but never have I done a sport that is so versatile and easily adaptable to the needs of it's athlete. Everyday I see people of all ages, sizes and abilities participating and challenging themselves in ways they never thought possible and it makes me beyond proud.
Crossfit changes people and Crossfit has changed me. It's not only building my strength up but it's giving me my confidence back after some rather debilitating injuries. If I can do it, you most definitely can!

JASON SINCLAIR

FRANKS BROTHERS MONTREAL & PAPANUI

READ MORE ABOUT JASON

Jason is one of the senior coaches at Reebok CrossFit Canterbury and has created a life around coaching and exercise. CrossFit just seemed like a natural progression coming from a background in training and competitive sports. Jason believes the greatest part of CrossFit is the challenge that it will present you with each day. Putting you in a position where you are forced to develop and master fundamental movements and continually develop new skills is the backbone towards creating the most well rounded fitness program. That is why CrossFit makes you better. The greatest part about coaching at Reebok CrossFit Canterbury for Jason is the opportunity he gets to see everyone around him progress and achieve things that six months or a year ago they never thought would never have been possible. Reaching goals like adding an extra ten kilo’s to your back squat, getting your first ring muscle up or RX’ing your first workout and the excitement that comes with that is the best part about being a coach.

  • PGDip. Sport and Exercise, Auckland University of Technology
  • B.S. Sports Coaching, University of Canterbury
  • CrossFit Mobility Trainer Course
  • Introduction to Relaxation Massage, New Zealand College of Massage

READ MORE ABOUT MUSH

I’ve always been active from school age playing touch rugby, basketball and rugby which then moved onto club rugby for 12 years. I’ve always dabbled in weight training at the gym however I haven’t always been healthy, becoming overweight due to moving to a sedentary job and a recovering from numerous knee surgeries over 3 years.  It was while rehabilitating from my ACL reconstruction that I discovered Crossfit in 2011.  I’ve never done anything that’s made me hurt so much, so fast and still made me love it.

My passion for Crossfit led to various competitions such as The Mount Team Nationals, Wellington Cup, HPU Playoffs and Battle of The Fittest.  I love Olympic Weightlifting and have competed at South Islands and Nationals.  I enjoy the team environment and seeing people excel beyond their own expectations.  Coaching was a natural progression and I have since received my CrossFit Level 1 and Mobility Trainer Certificate.

I’ve currently taken a break to have my first baby but trained up to 38 weeks.  Now I begin a new journey in post partum recovery which will be challenging but I’m looking forward to it.
